Catalogue Note
Pouqueville (1779-1838) had been a member of the French expedition to Egypt, attached to the scientific commission; he returned to France in 1801 after a short while in prison. He wrote an account of his experiences in the Levant which was dedicated to Napoleon, and in 1805 (possibly as a result of his book) Pouqueville was appointed French consul at Ioannina (Janina/Yannena) in north-western Greece where he spent ten years.
These nineteenth cenutry transcriptions of Pouqueville's travels, include a detailed account of Dalmatia and the region around Dubrovnik (until 1808 the Republic of Ragusa), together with details of Pouqueville's time as consul general in Ioannina.
