Catalogue Note
These exquisitely detailed vignettes are apparently the work of a talented amateur. Little is known of the artist, but the contemporary ownership inscription of Harriet Roberts of Gildersome, Leeds suggests that he may have lived in the West Riding of Yorkshire (see also lot 21). Roberts was evidently a keen natural historian, and was a subscriber to Curtis's British Entomology.
