Catalogue Note

The album contains 29 photographs of Athens by P. Moraites (one signed in the negative), Bonfils (1), and D. Constantin (2); 51 views of Constantinople by G. Berggren (13), and P. Sébah (8); 35 of Egypt (mostly Cairo, Giza and Suez) by F.M. Good (3), Frith (1), Zangaki (23), P. Sébah (1), and L. Fiorillo (2); 2 of India; and 16 of Italy and Sicily by G. Somner (9) and G. Incorpora (3).

THE 16 RARE LARGE FORMAT PHOTOGRAPHS OF ATHENS, are by or attributed to Petros Moraites (c.1835-1905), who became the first native Greek photographer to hold the title 'Photographer to H.M. the King' (c.1868). Throughout his career Moraites exhibited his photographs at numerous exhibitions, frequently winning medals for his work.
