Catalogue Note
A FINE PORTRAIT. Micheline Resco (1894-1968), was a Romanian born artist who established herself in Paris. In 1915 she met the recently widowed U.S. General John Pershing (1860-1948), Commander of the American Expeditionary Force, when she asked to paint his portrait; they became lovers and much later married in 1946. In 1922 Resco won an award for her portrait of General Pershing (now in the Musée de l'Armée, Paris), and painted many other notable figures including Marshal Ferdinand Foch, French Chief of Staff, and King Alexander of Yugoslavia.
