Catalogue Note

This classic of British ornithology ran to many editions, but the first is rare. This copy belonged to Frances Currer (1785-1861) of Eshton Hall, renowned bibliophile, by descent from her grandfather Mathew Wilson. Seymour De Ricci declared her to be “England's earliest female bibliophile”.
