3 volumes, folio (510 x 235mm.), French text, engraved title with architectural borders in volume 1, 317 double-page engraved maps, woodcut illustrations, head- and tailpieces and initials, contemporary hand colour, contemporary vellum, lacking engraved titles in vols. 2 & 3, some occasional browning, some strengthening to splits at lower folds and margins (more so in vol.2), binding slightly worn



A rare set of the three volume French edition of Janssonius's Atlas Novus. The Nouveau theatre du monde was published simultaneously in 1639 by Henricus Hondius and Joannes Janssonius, each with their own imprints. Both editions vary in the use of the (older) Hondius or (newer) Janssonius versions of about 25 maps.



The set collates as follows:

Volume 2. France, Switzerland and the Netherlands, 96 maps, [Van der Krogt 1:412.2D; Koeman II Me 98C
