  • A uniformly bound set of the Atlas Novus and Town Books of the Netherlands. Amsterdam, 1644-1655
5 volumes, folio (510 x 340mm.), half title in volume 1, 16 (of 17) divisional titles, 5 engraved titles, 456 (of 458) mostly double-page maps and plates, contemporary hand colour, contemporary vellum gilt, with ties, titles on spine; see below for further details

Volume I. Part 1. World, Scandinavia and Germany, 1644; Part 2. Low Countries, half-title, 2 engraved titles, together 120 maps



Volume 2. Part 1. France; Part 2. Spain, Asia, Africa and America, 2 engraved titles, together 92 maps, staining at lower corners, some repaired, just affecting a few images



Volume 3. China and Japan, engraved title "Novus atlas sinensis a Martino Martinio", 17 maps, occasional light browning, mostly to the text



Volumes 4 & 5. Novum et Magnum Theatrum Urbium Belgicae Regiae [-Foederatae][Town Books of the Netherlands]. Amsterdam: Joannes Blaeu, [1649], 2 volumes, printed titles pasted within engraved architectural borders, 16 (of 17) divisional half-titles and 222 (of 224) plates (some showing two or more subjects), French and Dutch privilege leaves in both volumes, second vol. with title and preliminaries strengthened (slight loss to title), also lacking maps 28 & 30 (Lucebergum and Monumentum Romanum), and lacking letterpress divisional half-title (Cambrai), a few maps strengthened at fold, old repairs just affecting image of a few maps, occasional abrasion at centre-fold, upper hinge of second vol. weak
