Catalogue Note

Although the label on the cover and the table of content call for 38 lithographed plates, this copy comprises 39 plates by different artists, including A. Orlovskii, Kollmann and Swébach. The illustrations show a broad range of scenes from everyday life in and around St. Petersburg with emphasis on working people and soldiers in carriages and sleighs as well as their attire. Several plates also contain architectural views of mostly St. Petersburg, such as the Imperial Admiralty, the stock exchange and other places like the harbour of Kronshtadt.
