4 volumes, folio (600 x 400mm.), half-title in volume 1, 4 engraved additional titles, 4 printed titles in red and black with engraved vignette or devices, and 269 mostly double-page or folding plates showing maps, town plans and views, panoramas and architectural elevations (many showing two or more subjects), contemporary speckled calf gilt, evidence of library stamps on printed titles, plate XXXV in volume 4 cut to neatline and laid down, bindings repaired (see catalogue note)



Pierre Mortier's re-issue, with French text, of Blaeu's Townbooks of Italy, with many new maps and plates.

This work includes fine large panoramic views of Genoa, Venice and Naples, with many detailed plates depicting the building of ancient Rome.
