Description

  • Tiffany Studios
  • "Geometric and Turtle-Back" Prism Ceiling Fixture
leaded glass, favrile glass and gilt bronze

Provenance

Private Collection, Long Island, NY
Acquired from the above by the present owner

Condition

Overall in very good condition. All of the prisms appear to be from the period and present as a well-matched assembled set; four of the prisms display a slightly cooler blue hue though share the same form and profile as the entire set. One prism has a hairline crack that has been glued and stabilized (only visible under close inspection.) All of the prisms are beautifully iridized, imparting the shade with strong luminous color and a range of brilliant jewel-tone hues. The central geometric shade with only 1 visible crack to the glass tiles which appears stable. The gilt bronze mount with some occasional light surface scratches, rubbing and minor surface discolorations consistent with age and gentle use. With a replaced interior socket cluster. This fixture presents beautifully in person with great visual presence and strong luminous color. When viewed firsthand, the leaded glass shade and prisms are slightly more subtle in coloration than the catalogue photography, which is slightly too red and over-saturated.
