Condition

Overall in very good condition. The shade with only 2 visible cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout, both which appear stable. The shade leading is beautifully rendered with very refined lines and displays a particularly rich russet brown and green patina. The rare "Fern" base is a highly complementary pairing to the shade, adding to the delicate jewel-like quality of the lamp. The casting quality of the base is very fine, and the base displays a particularly rich green and russet brown patina. The bronze surfaces appear to have been waxed, showing gentle rubbing to the high points of the design and light surface soiling to the recessed contours. The cord bushing, which appears to be replaced and possibly from a later electrical adaptation, is located on the base stem approximately 2 ½ inches above the ground. The underside of the base is applied with felt glides. All of the sockets and paddle switches appear to be from the period and undisturbed. With a period finial which displays a closely corresponding patina to the base; when installed the finial has a slight overhang to the top aperture of the shade. A stunning example of the Clematis model displaying a particularly harmonious and desirable shade and base pairing, and an outstanding glass selection distinguished by the artistic juxtaposition of opalescent and translucent glass. The majority of blossoms are articulated in rich violet favrile glass with striking cadmium yellow centers. Select passages of the background are articulated in "Confetti" (fractured) glass, further adding to the visual activity and depth of this spectacular shade. When viewing this lamp firsthand, the glass is more saturated and luminous than seen in the catalogue photography, which is slightly too red and under saturated.
