Condition
Overall in very good condition. The shade with approximately 12 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout. All of these hairlines appear stable. There are a few small isolated areas on the shade that show traces of an old green pigment over the leading. These areas were likely stabilized in the past; the glass in these areas appears to be period Tiffany glass and there is no evidence of glass replacement. By all visible accounts the shade is quite early based on its glass selection and construction details. The leading is thickly rendered in a controlled and artistic manner in the central regions of each Azalea blossom, a distinct leading treatment which here is a successful design feature of the shade. The deep red Azalea blossoms show vigorous streaks of violet, adding to the visual activity and drama of the shade. The patinated bronze surfaces of the base show considerable surface wear and oxidation throughout, possibly from being in a humid climate over time. The telescoping device on the base functions smoothly. All six exterior socket casings appear original and undisturbed; with replaced pull chains. With a period finial which displays a closely corresponding patina to the base. A superb example of this exceedingly rare shade model, displaying a highly artistic and thoughtful glass selection. When viewing this lamp firsthand, the glass is more nuanced and the reds are more luminous and richer than seen in the catalogue illustration.
