Condition

This photograph, on lightly-textured paper with a faint surface sheen, is in generally excellent condition. It is trimmed to the image and flush-mounted to sturdy card. In raking light, a few tiny deposits of indeterminate nature and faint surface scratches that do not appear to break the emulsion, are visible overall. The corners are bumped, with tiny resultant losses of emulsion.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Catalogue Note

The photographs in this and the previous lot were taken by Ruth Orkin near her West Village apartment at 88 Horatio Street where she lived from 1945 to 1950.  A Manhattan-based photojournalist whose work appeared in LIFE, Ladies’ Home Journal, and other popular magazines of the day, Orkin is perhaps best-known for her iconic photograph American Girl in Italy (1951).  Orkin was also a dedicated photographer of New York City and continued to photograph the metropolis to the end of her life.
