Condition
The painting is in a relatively good state of preservation.
It is still on its original canvas.
We can notice 5 restorations of about 1 centimeters of diameter, on the left, in the back. We can also see some little marks on the left.
Finally, we can notice the mark of the frame on the original canvas.
Under the UV light : green uniform varnish. We can notice the restorations previously mentioned, as well as a small restoration under the desk, on the left, and a restoration above the right shoulder.

Catalogue Note
Jean Huber, portraitiste et peintre de silhouette suisse est connu pour ses portraits du célèbre philosophe des Lumières François-Marie Arouet dit Voltaire. Le peintre sera même surnommé Huber-Voltaire grâce à son amitié avec le philosophe. Il fut le seul peintre à réaliser des portraits du philosophe de son vivant. Par l’intermédiaire de Friedrich Melchior Grimm, Catherine II de Russie lui commanda un cycle de peinture présentant Voltaire dans son environnement privé à Ferney. L’artiste nomma cet ensemble composé de neuf toiles « la Voltairiade ».
