Condition

The painting is overall in very good condition. There is a beautiful painted surface with lots of impastos, very well preserved. The painting appears under an old green varnish, very dirty. There is a slight scratch going from the chin of the model to the right edge of the picture. There is also a restored slit on the upper edge on the right. We can notice some little lacks of painting, the size of a pinhole, in the neck and in the chin of the model. The painting is painted on a panel made with one non cradle plank. Under UV light: The painting is under a green uniform varnish. There is a restoration visible on the slit previously mentioned.

Catalogue Note

Claude Deruet est un artiste dont nous ne connaissons encore que peu de choses. Nous savons qu'il a peint des portraits de femmes plutôt stéréotypés avec des costumes généralement très riches et inventés. Ces oeuvres qui semblent être d'une production parisienne sont toutes plus ou moins de même format. Le panneau que nous présentons aujourd'hui semble très proche de la production que l'on donne à l'artiste mais de qualité particulièrement belle. Les empâtements que l'on retrouve sur tout le costume et son format, légèrement plus grand que les autres, en font un tableau spécial très désirable.
