Catalogue Note

A small number of drawings closely related to Pennsylvania German fraktur and usually made by fraktur artists probably relate to specific events. This is one such example. The picture of a man holding a wineglass and with a dog at his heels and a woman with a fan under a sort of arbor surmounted by three pairs of birds may well be a souvenir of a wedding. Was someone teasing the man that his dog was almost as important as his bride? -F.S.W.
