Eine nackte Frau mit langen, roten Haaren liegt in einer Blumenwiese zusammengekauert. Am linken Bildrand ist ein blühender Baum zu sehen, rechts daneben stehen Sträucher und Büsche. Dieses kleine Meisterwerkt stammt mit seiner Datierung 1893/94 aus der Zeit als Félix Vallotton sich mit der Pariser Avantgarde stark auseinandersetzte und einen intensiven Austausch mit den damals jungen Malern der Grossstadt pflegte, die sich 1888/89 zur Künstlergruppe der Nabis verbunden hatten.
Das vorliegende Bild ist in seiner Maltechnik ein hervorragendes und seltenes Beispiel für den Pointillismus im Oeuvre von Vallotton.

A nude woman with long red hair lies curled in a field of flowers. On the left margin, one can see a blossoming tree, with bushes to the right. This small masterpiece dates back to 1893/94, a time when Félix Vallotton was greatly influenced by the Parisian Avantgarde and intensely involved with young painters in the French capital who, in 1888/89, formed the artists’ collective known as “Les Nabis”.
The present work and its painting technique are an exquisite and rare example of pointillism in Vallotton's oeuvre.
