Condition

Work not unframed. Irregularity of the paper along the lower edge. Paper creased diagonally in the two upper corners and to the lower right side. The lower right tear has been repaired. Otherwise good condition.

Gezeichnet um 1918.

Die Auseinandersetzung mit Pferdemotiven zieht sich seit Eppers Ausbildung an der Kunstgewerbeschule in St. Gallen durch sein künstlerisches Schaffen. Das Pferd symbolisiert für den Maler das wild phantastische Geschöpf, aber auch das Wesen, das verzweifelnd die Last des Lebens trägt und schliesslich daran zerbricht. Eppers Tier- und Menschendarstellungen wühlen auf und beunruhigen, gleichzeitig sind sie aber auch voller Ästhetik.
