Ignaz Eppers Kunst zwingt oft zur Auseinandersetzung mit sich selbst und der Welt. In einem beengenden Innenraum befinden sich ein Mann und eine Frau in scheinbarer Beziehungslosigkeit zueinander. Die Szenerie erzeugt beim Betrachter Beklommenheit. Die beiden Figuren scheinen von Ängsten und Selbstzweifeln bedrängt. Sie stehen möglicherweise für die Auseinandersetzung der Geschlechter – für Verführung und Kampf, für Vernichtung und Verrat. Nicht selten sind seine Personendarstellungen ein Spiegel für die seelische Zerrissenheit des Künstlers, verursacht durch innere und äussere Nöte.
