Catalogue Note

This delicate watercolour is from a series of 1970 Crimean landscapes by Alexander Labas. Though he was drawn to sweeping panoramas, his spaces are inevitably populated and the anonymous figures in the present seashore view are typical of this instinct of his to portray man and nature in harmony.
