Catalogue Note

A student of Pavel Filonov, Kibrik was a member of the 'Masters of Analytical Art' group between 1926 and 1930. He eventually broke with the group and publicly criticised his former teacher, leading to his denunciation as a renegade by other members. While earlier works owe great debt to Filonov, Kibrik later develops his own style more in line with official Soviet art. The present work is part of his Munich series and showcases the artist’s advanced technical skills in watercolour.
