rectangular with bombé sides, the hinged cover with a view of the victorious Russian army of Empress Elizaveta Petrovna chasing retreating Prussians, the interior lid with a portrait medallion of the empress framed by military trophies and a ribbon inscribed in Russian "God save Elizaveta I, Empress of All the Russias," the sides of the box painted with military trophies, with gilt-metal mounts

small scratches to surface of lid consistent with age and use; areas of slightly discolored restoration to underside of box and inside interior at lower right
