'Fish Quay', A Flemish 'Teniers' Tapestry, Brussels, workshop of Pieter van den Hecke mid 18th century

  • approximately 309cm. high, 251cm. wide; 10ft. 1in., 8ft. 3in.
within a four-sided woven gold and red frame pattern border, with the Brussels town mark, and weaver's mark, P.VAN.DEN.HECKE, (borders cut and joined)

Condition

Lined with blue cotton, with hessian band across the top with hoops. Recommend Velcro applied across the top for hanging in the future. This tapestry has been restored in the past. Stable condition overall. The right border has been cut and joined. There are repairs in areas, for example to minor areas of old moth in the borders and foreground. There is repair to the left arm and clothing of seated lady on the quayside wall. Repairs to faces of figures. Colour faded generally overall, with some oxidisation to the browns. Some small areas of weakness in lightest areas, commensurate with age. The strongest colours are the shades of cerise and indigo. Good size and charming subject matter.
