Description
- Portrait of a Lady, half length, wearing a white dress with a purple shawl and a pearl necklace
- oil on canvas
Condition
The picture is lighter in tone and softer in colour than the catalogue illustration would suggest. On a flat stable panel framed as an oval. The paint surface is in good condition with no apparent damage or loss of pant except for an old minor surface scratch measuring approx. 2 in. centre right as can be seen in the catalogue illustration and there are some old minor retouchings to old paint losses in the hair and left cheek. Otherwise the paint surface is fine but for surface dirt and an old slightly blanching varnish. Examination under ultraviolet confirms the aforementioned retouching and reveals some further minor retouchings to the background as well as some old abrasions but otherwise the picture is in good country house condition. Offered in a gilt wood and plaster frame in good overall condition.
