Condition
This work is signed lower right: E. Gebauer / 1843. It appears slightly less bright in the whiter areas, and less pinkish in tone overall, than the catalogue reproduction suggests.
The canvas is unlined and in very good condition. There are five small patches of repair on the reverse, these damages have been carefully restored on the corresponding painted side.
The paint is in good state, with no losses. The colours are in excellent condition.
Inspection under Ultraviolet light shows old and more recent re- strengthening in the white of the sitter's clothing, around his nose, and several areas in the background.
This lot is sold unframed.
