Catalogue Note

This is a wonderfully poignant keepsake of Marlene Dietrich's friendship with Alberto Giacometti.  During the 1950s, the actress viewed Giacometti's famed sculpture of a dog at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.  Living in Paris while engaged at the Théâtre de l'Étoile, she engineered a meeting at a café near the artist's studio.  The two got on famously; she became a fixture at his studio and rumors of romance swirled.  Although the friendship ended as abruptly as it began, this print is a fabulous reminder of their brief yet intense friendship.
