Catalogue Note

This image served to widely publicize the scandalous affair of a married society woman (Clara Ward, an American heiress) with a known lothario. The lithograph, picturing her in a theater box with her lover, was published by Gustave Pellet and soon thereafter reproduced in the periodical L’Estampe et l’Affiche.
