Catalogue Note

The present work depicts several compositions on one sheet. A rotation of the plate illustrates a self-portrait of the artist, a beggar couple, the head of an elderly man and woman, among other suggestive elements. The print has a lively and painterly appearance, as if from a sketch-book. This rare sheet of studies is a fine example of Rembrandt's experimental etchings from a pivotal stage of his career.
