Provenance

The front cover bears the inscription Erik Werenskiold / venligst fra / Bernt Gronvold. Both Bernt Grønvold (active circa 1859)  and Erik Werenskiold (1855-1938) were Norwegian painters and Werenskiold is regarded as one of the country's greatest artists.

Condition

With wide margins, each sheet in good condition apart from a small fox mark at upper right edge of plates 28-30, a circular stain at upper left images of plates 35-38, very pale water-staining at extreme sheet edges of plates 73, 75-80 (at centre and lower left corner), occasional inconspicuous minute fox marks in the margins, a minor soft horizontal crease along the upper edges of preliminary sheets (associated with the binding), occasional minor creases at lower right corners, plate 4 with faint surface soiling at lower right corner, pale paper discoloration at lower edge. Front cover with a few ink and water-stains, a pen and ink inscription at lower right edge ('Erik Werenskiold / vanligst fra / Bernt Gronvold'), some surface soiling, rubbed extremities and minor wear.
