Description
- Lewis Baltz
- DANA POINT NO. 1 (POINT REALTY)
- gelatin silver print
flush-mounted to photographic paper, credit and '#25' in pencil on the reverse, 1970 (Prototype Works, pl. 24, and revised edition, 2011, pl. 33)
Provenance
The photographer to Leland Rice, scholar, curator and photographer, a teaching colleague at Pomona College and Claremont Graduate School, California, 1973.
Condition
In his afterword in the revised edition of 'Prototype Works,' Matthew Witkovsky describes Lewis Baltz's distinctive presentation style for his photographs in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The present print--flush-mounted back-to-back to another sheet of photographic paper--is consistent with Baltz's way of presenting prints during this period.
This early print, on medium-weight paper with a semi-glossy surface and flush-mounted to another piece of photographic paper, is in generally excellent condition. In raking light, a crease is visible in the lower right margin corner. Clip impressions are visible in all four margin corners on the front and on the reverse.
On the reverse, 'Baltz' and '#25' have been written very faintly in pencil. On the reverse at the lower right edge, a tiny sliver of dry-mounting tissue is visible.
