- 'CHICKEN MARKET'
- GELATIN SILVER PRINT
numbered '206' in the negative, the photographer's Federal Art Project 'Changing New York' and caption stamps, with title, date, and annotations in ink, on the reverse, 1937 (Yochelson, Lower East Side, pl. 10)
Condition
This early contact print, on smooth double-weight paper with a faint surface sheen, is in generally excellent condition. There is faint silvering in the black margin edges, which also exhibit some wear, creasing, and loss of emulsion. Upon close examination, a fingerprint and a 3/4-inch circular-impression are visible along the upper edge, intruding into the image slightly.
The reverse of the print is appropriately age-darkened at the edges. The 'Changing New York' caption stamp on the reverse is annotated in ink with the following information:
Title: 'Chicken Market'
Place: '55 Hester Street, Manhattan'
Neg. # '206'
Code: 'III A-2 and II C-I'
Date: 'February 11, 1937'
