Description

  • EAST SUSSEX COAST (EAR AND BEACH)
  • Gelatin silver print
the photographer's credit stamp, stamped reproduction rights and photo agency labels on the reverse, 1957 (Nudes, pl. 39)

Condition

This photograph, on single-weight paper with a semi-glossy surface, is in generally good condition. The paper is wavy overall. In raking light, a number of impressions and soft and sharp handling creases, some of which break the emulsion, are visible overall. There is a small 'U' shaped deposit of original retouching in the upper sky-area. The print is trimmed to the image, and there is minute chipping along the edges and corners. The reverse of the print is soiled and there are abrasions to the upper paper ply. Also on the reverse are a 'Photo Researchers, Inc., NYC' picture agency label, a white label with 'Ear + beachscape' in ink, and 'X32875' in ink. The stamped paper label on the reverse reads as follows: 'This photograph is the property of the photographer, B. Brandt [written in ink], and may not be sold as a collector's item. The monetary damages for loss, damage or failure to return this print shall be no less than $1,500. Fees for reproduction must be negotiated individually.' When examined under ultraviolet light, this print appears to fluoresce.
