Condition

These prints are in generally excellent condition. In raking light, the following are visible on many of the prints: scattered deposits of retouching; soft creases in the margins and light wear to the margin edges; and small soft creases, not breaking the emulsion, in some of the images. A detailed report for each print is beyond the scope of this condition report; those wishing condition reports on specific prints are welcome to contact the Photographs Department. The front matter is printed in English and Japanese and is generally clean. The wooden box is in generally excellent condition. The plates are as follows: I. Catalogue Note

This portfolio, published in 1987, contains 50 of Robert Doisneau’s most iconic images, including Le Baiser de l’Hôtel de Ville; Un Regard Oblique; and Les Enfants de la place Hébert (shown here), among many other favorites.  The portfolio is divided into five sections, each containing ten images: Enfants (Children), Amoureux (Lovers), Bistrots (Bistros), La Rue (The Street), and Artiste.  The entire set of images is housed in a handsome, custom-made wooden box.
