Description

  • Brassaï
  • PROMENADE DES ANGLAIS (COUPLE ON BEACH)
  • Gelatin silver print
ferrotyped, the 'Succession Brassaï Estate' stamp and with numerical notations in pencil on the reverse, 1930s (Brassaï: Intime et Inédit, p. 108)

Condition

This ferrotyped print is in generally good condition. As is typical of ferrotyped prints, superficial surface scratches, pitting, and a slight unevenness of the generally glossy surface are visible. Upon close examination, an S-shaped impression and several long scratches are visible, none of which appears to break the emulsion. These issues are consistent with a print of this age. The print is trimmed to the image and the corners are creased. The upper paper ply is folded back at the tip of the lower left corner. The reverse of the print is lightly soiled and appropriately age-darkened at the periphery. The following is written in pencil on the reverse: '18x24 Mi 374,' '2,' and '377' [erased]. When examined under ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
