Description

  • Bill Brandt
  • LONDON (NUDE)
  • gelatin silver print
the photographer's credit stamp on the reverse, 1959 (Bill Brandt: Nudes 1945-1980, pl. 56)

Condition

This early print, on medium-weight paper with a surface sheen, is in generally very good condition. The edges are somewhat rubbed, and the corners are bumped. There are 2 faint deposits in the margins— the first is an off-white circular deposit of indeterminate nature in the thin upper margin; and the second is a pale rust-colored deposit at the lower right margin corner. Neither of these affects the image. When examined in raking light, extensive original hand work and retouching throughout the print is visible. This has resulted in a slight waviness in the paper. The number '26' is written on the reverse of the print in the lower left corner. When examined in ultraviolet light, this print appears to fluoresce.
