Condition

This photograph, on double-weight semi-glossy paper, is in generally very good condition. The LIFE Photo Lab date stamp on the reverse of the print indicates that it was made on 'December 26 1962.' Visible in raking light are faint silvering on 3 fingerprints and what appears to be a soft, barely perceptible horizontal impression that does not break the emulsion. The margin edges are rubbed, and there is a crease in the lower left margin corner that does not affect the image. There are pencil crop marks in the margin corners, and in the wider lower margin, there are the following: red ink reduction notations, '3" (circled)' in blue ink, three adhesive tape remnants, two of which have the following written in blue ink: 'F/S #4291 2A (circled and marked out)' and F/S #9748-48 pg 12, 50.' Yellowed adhesive staining on the reverse of the print suggests that it was previously affixed to a mount. The following is written in the photographer's hand in ink: 'Leica,' '35mm lens,' '1/10 sec,' and 'daylight.' The numbers '692/E6' and '2' [circled] are written in an unidentified hand in pencil. This photograph is accompanied by a partial mount that has the Famous Photographers School lesson stamp with '3' (Lesson 3 is Composing Your Photographs) and '12' (page) and has the following FPS stamps: 'Original Art,' 'Please Return to Archives Nash Bldg.,' and 'Photo Dept. FAS.' This photograph is also reproduced in: Famous Photographers Course, Volume I, Lesson 3, 'Composing Your Photographs,' pp. 12 and 41. The technical information regarding the making of this photograph is as follows: Leica with a 35mm lens; Super XX film; 1/25 second at f/8; daylight.
