Description

  • Aaron Siskind
  • KENTUCKY
  • gelatin silver print
signed and dated in pencil on the reverse, 1951 (Photographer, unpaginated)

Condition

This early print, on double-weight paper with a surface sheen, is in generally excellent condition. In raking light, silvering, soft handling creases, and a small scratch in the upper left corner are visible. The margin edges are worn and the corners are bumped. While the volume 'Aaron Siskind: Photographer' (The George Eastman House, Inc., 1965) dates this image from 1951, Siskind has dated the reverse of this print '1955' in pencil. Also on the reverse, '67' (circled); '8' (circled); 'K 7'; 'PH 98612'; and '7 7' are written in an unidentified hand in pencil. The reverse is lightly soiled, especially at the edges, and there are two tape remnants at the upper corners. When examined under ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
