Description

  • Berenice Abbott
  • 'SQUIBB BUILDING WITH SHERRY-NETHERLAND IN BACKGROUND'
  • Gelatin silver print
numbered '44' in the negative, the photographer's Federal Art Project 'Changing New York' and caption stamps, with title, date, and annotations in ink, on the reverse, 1935 (Yochelson, Middle East Side, p. 385)

Condition

This photograph, on double-weight paper with a smooth surface and slight sheen, is in generally very good to excellent condition. The print is slightly warmer along the upper and right edges of the image. Uneven silvering is visible in the central and left portions of the image. There is a small sharp crescent-shaped crease in the lower section of the image that does not appear to break the emulsion. The margin edges and corners are lightly worn. The reverse of the print is slightly age-darkened at its periphery. On the reverse of the print, the 'Changing New York' caption stamp is annotated in ink with the following information: Title: 'Squibb Building with Sherry-Netherland in Background' Place: '745 Fifth Avenue, Manhattan' Neg. # '44' Code: 'IA3' Date: 'Nov 21, 1935'
