Description
- Edward Weston
- POTATO CELLAR, LAKE TAHOE
- gelatin silver print
mounted, initialed and dated on the mount, date and negative number in pencil on the reverse, 1937, probably printed in the 1940s (Conger 1122)
Condition
This slightly warm-toned early print, on paper with a slight surface sheen and mounted on a tan board, is in generally good condition. When examined in raking light, the following are visible: scratches and linear impressions that do not appear to break the emulsion; and faint silvering.
The tan mount is soiled, with 3 tack holes and several drip-like deposits in the upper portion and age-darkening at the periphery. The reverse of the mount has the negative number and date (LT-5G and 1937) in an unidentified hand in the upper left corner. It is also soiled and age-darkened.
As is typical of prints that Weston made in the 1940s, this photograph has been initialed and dated below the image, rather than fully signed and dated.
