2 photographs, including The Only Flowers of Her Youth and 'Grandfather and Granddaughter, Lublin,' the first mounted, signed, dated, and annotated in pencil on the mount, the second with the estate stamp, signed by Mara Vishniac Kohn, the photographer's daughter, in ink, on the reverse, matted, signed, titled, and dated in ink on the mat, each framed, 1937-38, printed later (A Vanished World, back cover and pp. 42 and 65) (2)

Condition

These prints are in generally excellent condition. Sara, Sitting in Bed in Basement Dwelling, with Stenciled Flowers above her Head, Warsaw - In raking light, scattered deposits of retouching, small scratches, and linear and pin-point-sized impressions are visible overall. 'Hand-made original print - Roman Vishniac - Warsaw 1938' is annotated on the mount. The front and reverse of the mount are soiled, and there are small abrasions and adhesive residue. On the reverse of the mount, 'PF24135H' is written in an unidentified hand in pencil. 'Grandfather and Granddaughter, Lublin' - In raking light, a few sharp creases are visible. The reverse is lightly soiled, and the following annotations are written in an unidentified hand in pencil: 'PF26283,' '65Vw 7,' 'RV93.06,' and 'RV - 15935.' While Vishniac dates these prints 1937 (Grandfather and Granddaughter) and 1938 (Sara Sitting in her Bed), 'A Vanished World' (Farrar, Straus, & Girous, New York, 1947), dates these prints 1938 and 1939, respectively.
