Provenance
The Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation, New York
TWO x TWO for Aids and Art benefit auction, Dallas, circa 2003
Condition
This print is in generally excellent condition. In raking light, 2 crescent-shaped sharp creases near the upper edge are visible. These do not appear to break the emulsion. Also visible in raking light are two tiny raised areas in the upper left portion of the image, likely particles trapped between the print and board during mounting.
On the reverse, 'v [circled]' is written in an unidentified hand in pencil. There is very light soiling near the left edge of the reverse.
The Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation label titles this work 'Sleeping Cupid.'
