Condition
The panel is flat, even and ensuring a stable support, with two grooves on the reverse relating to former panel batons. There are a couple of minor, light dents to the panel which are not particularly distracting: one in the wall in the upper-right quadrant, and one in the red pigments of the carpet towards the right of the lower edge.
Under ultra-violet light the varnish fluoresces evenly and quite opaquely and a few scattered small signs of retouching are visible, notably three circa 2 by 2-to-3cm spots in the hair of the reclining figure, the rug below her arm, and below the feet of the seated woman (each with some visible light wear to the paint surface), a small area in the wall in the upper-left quadrant and one circa 5 by 5cm below the centre of the right framing edge, and in the lower right corner including in the extreme-right part of the 't' of the signature.
This painting is in good overall condition and although it is likely the work would benefit from a surface clean if desired, it is otherwise ready to hang.
Presented in a decorative gilt frame
