The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This work has been carefully restored and should be hung in its current condition. While there are a few losses on the side of the frame along the top, the remainder of the work does not need attention. The incorporated frame has been restored. The painting itself seems to be in fresh condition, although there are restorations in the light color between the twin peaks in the upper left. The gilding in the halos, decorative touches in the gown of the Madonna and around the child seems to be old. Although there are presumably retouches added to reduce some cracking in the dark robe of the Madonna and perhaps to articulate some of the brickwork behind the Madonna, there is a freshness and original feel to most of the work.
