Catalogue Note
A pupil of Pierre-Paul Prud'hon, Mallet exhibited at every Salon between 1793 and 1827, obtaining a first class medal in 1817. His reputation was established through his gouache scenes of fashionable and often libertine subjects, which now serve as wonderful records of the furnishings and interiors fashionable in France in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
