Catalogue Note

Though this animated study of an allegorical female figure, naked except for the ornate badge in her hair, seems to demonstrate a knowledge of the highly individual style of Goltzius, no attribution can easily be found among the known artists in his immediate circle.  The possibility that this drawing is Germanic in origin should also be considered.
