Catalogue Note

Pieter van Slingelandt was a painter of portrait and genre scenes.  Stylistically his works demonstrate the influence of his teacher, Gerrit Dou.  Slingelandt adopted and carried on the fijnschilder tradition of painting that Dou had developed and championed so successfully.
