Laid down, and with additional strip of brown paper around edges, verso. Some light foxing throughout. Minor losses and abrasions at edges. Otherwise reasonable condition.

Catalogue Note

In this scene from the book of Genesis, we see Abraham bowing before the three disguised angels, who have come to tell him that he and his wife Sarah (seen peeking round the flap of their tent) will have a child.  Although de Wit is perhaps best known for his secular decorations, he did paint a number of religious subjects.
