Description

  • Winter scene with sledges
  • Black chalk and gray wash, within brown ink framing lines

Exhibited

Amsterdam, Rijksmuseum, 1929, no. 210 (as Jan van Goyen, according to old label on former backing, now lost)

Condition

Hinge mounted. There is a slight discoloration to the four edges of the sheet, probably as a result of an old mount. There is an old crease, circa 23mm, to the upper edge and what appears to be an old repair to the same edge within the tree branches. There are some small nicks to the edges of the sheet and some light rubbing to the chalk in places. Generally the medium is strong.
