Laid down on mount and some discoloration upper corners, otherwise in good condition.

Catalogue Note
After the death of Adriaen van Ostade in 1685, a large group of his figure studies was inherited by his pupil, Cornelis Dusart. These drawings were used by Dusart in his own work, and he also sometimes worked them up with additional washes in ink or watercolor. It can on occasion be extremely difficult to distinguish between original color by Ostade himself, and later additions by Dusart. For further information on these reworked drawings, see B. Schnackenburg, Adriaen van Ostade, Isack van Ostade, Zeichnungen und Aquarelle, Hamburg 1981, pp. 60-62. A very similar drawing in technique and size, A Man Holding a Pair of Scales, was sold in these Rooms, 24 January 2007, lot 53.
