  • 113.5 by 93.5 cm.; 44¾ by 37 in.

Condition

The canvas has a fairly recent relining, which is a little uneven but still sound. The paint surface appears in very good overall condition. There is an old area of repair, approx 5 x 5 cm in the upper right hand corner, and a small diagonal 8 cm old repaired tear extending in from the edge just below this. The only other repairs are an old vertical 10 cm tear or scratch in the cheek of the nearest figure on the left, and a patch of old repair some 5 x 5 cm inthe lower right hand corner. The remainder of the painting appears in excellent fresh condition, and ultra violet light reveals almost no further intervention. The repairs have now discoloured and are beginning to become visible to the naked eye but are not obtrusive. The varnish layer is a little yellowed but remains clear and even. Offered in a gilt wood frame in the English style in good condition.
